Activity 22 Integrated Business Planning

Hello, everyone. Here is my twenty-second activity talking about business planning integration. What do you think? Let me know what you think in the comments😎

What is “Integrated Business Planning” (IBP)?

It creates a single operating plan for the company, agreed upon by consensus between departments or areas that takes into account internal demand, supply, new product development, strategic projects and financial plans.

What is “Sales and Operations Planning” (S&OP)?

It is a practice focused on alignment between sectors, in order to optimize the overall performance of a company.

What are the similarities between IBP and S&OP? Mention and describe them.

They both need supporting data, they help align forecasts with capability and they guide senior management in their planning decisions.

What are the differences between IBP and S&OP? Mention and describe them.

●     S&OP is based on supply and demand, maintaining a balance between the two.

●     Whereas IBP is based on financial objectives and how to achieve them.

●     S&OP focuses more on what happens internally in the business

●     While IBP maintains a more general view inside and outside the business.

●     S&OP carries a more focused analysis of how the business and the sale is performing.

How does the IBP process work? Describe in detail.

Allow us to identify opportunities, assess risks and use what-if analysis to guide decision making. Indicate what is happening to the business and if there is anything that can improve its situation. It creates a path forward after the options are analyzed as well as their possible outcomes, so that the business can follow the one that works best for it.

What are the challenges of IBP?

In order to have good results when using this tool, it is necessary to have all the requirements that allow it to work as expected, whether they are economic or technological equipment. This reason can create that many companies are limited in their use.

Which are the most common difficulties/problems when implementing IBP? Mention them and  provide examples.

●     Failure to use the necessary technological tools to work with it.

●     Lack of communication and attention in the areas and departments that need it.

●     Making way for more information for better analysis is not always easy, as it is hidden information or information with limited privacy for certain use.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of IBP?

Advantages: It helps businesses to predict certain difficulties that may arise. It creates a habit of planning and creating strategies for the good of the business.

Disadvantages: If there is no plan established in the areas and who works within them, it could cause a lack of control and very little organization in the business.

What is the importance of IBP nowadays?

In order to have good results or work to pursue the objectives, it is necessary to have a plan and a strategy that prevents us from possible threats and difficulties that the business may go through. In addition, it is good to have a correct administration in terms of the areas and those who work in them, which are skills that apply to each position and area within the business.

  1. The IBP has a large number of advantages, such as better planning, effective collaboration, but it also has some disadvantages and I believe that the one that companies most manifest is the fear of losing their investment, since the projects carry a risk, which they are necessary if you are to be successful.

  2. I agree with the disadvantages that IBP has! it is not possible for every single company to implement it since it can be expensive and not all businesses have large profits and is therefore unrealistic to expect them all to incorporate it.

  3. I agree with the challenges you wrote. I believe that there are only few businesses and organizations that can achieve the requirements needed for the implementation of Integrated Business Planning. Tecnhology, capital and even teams commitment are so fundamental to get this process done.

  4. I believe that another important point in the implementation of the IBP, is the training of employees
